La Perouse (Maui, Hawaii)

You might think it’s a lot, to have to read 2 blog posts in a week. I used to blog 3 to 4 times a week for months at one point and I loved doing it and I also liked having a ‘journal’ to look back at instead of just a bunch of pictures without written memories.  Continue reading

Thoughts on National Parks & the ultimate feeling of freedom

DSC_4467-2kopie

Before I came down to the US, 10 months ago, I thought that National Parks were a combination of Disneyland and the zoo. I didn’t really know what they really were. I thought it was just one of those touristy things, that people want to see when they are in a certain area. Now that I’ve been to 3 of those parks (Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree and Olympic National Park) I have a better idea of what a National Park is. Continue reading

Shameless selfie at the LA Observation Deck

DSC_1608

The Los Angeles City Hall is a building that not only has appeared in many movies. It also is the perfect spot to get an amazing view over the city. You can get up to the 27th floor of the building and walk around on the deck. The top level of this building is a conference room with windows all around and there happened to be a conference the day I went there. I was taking selfies for Instagram and suddenly I saw all the people from inside the room looking at me! Awkward!! Anyway, I got a good picture for Instagram with all the high buildings in the background, so I didn’t really mind people watching me taking my shameless selfie! 😉 Continue reading

A walk through Olvera Street

Slaiden One 1

As some of you know already, I had spring break last week and I didn’t have to take care of the baby as he was at his grandparents’ house for the week. That made last week the perfect opportunity to finally explore the beautiful city of Los Angeles. As LA traffic is known to be crazy at all times and as parking is pretty expensive in the city, I ended up going by train, which was really easy because there was a station close to all the areas I wanted to see during my city tour.

One of the places I wanted to go to for a while already was Olvera Street. This street, located in downtown LA near to the Union Station, reminded me of Mexico. I remember walking around in Playa del Carmen a couple of years ago and seeing all kinds of colorful goodies on the little markets. This place was kind of the same thing. There was latin music playing, the smell of fresh tacos, hand-made bags and sandals and just a really nice atmosphere. Even though this place isn’t too big, I walked around there for about 2 hours and ate some delicious tacos with avocado sauce as you can see in one of the pictures below.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust

Wanderlust is a word that fully describes the way I am. I wish I could live that word every day.

What I love to do is to watch and share pictures I take while discovering new places. When looking back at those pictures I feel these strong and happy memories of what were the best days of the year.

The 3 C’s I’ve never been to that are on the top of my list for visiting are:

1. The Coast line of California
2. Costa Rica
3. Canada

What is your dream destination to wander? 😉

Sightseeing in Salamanca

1.Salamanca 041

Hello everyone!

I had a lovely day today! I woke up early and I went to the gym for a run. I ran 6,5 km in 40 minutes + burned 500 Kcal. I’m so proud of myself! 😉

After that, I cooked together with my roommates (‘compañeros de piso’) because one of them left today, and we wanted her to have an amazing last day with us. We made pasta with pesto, and also some toasts with ‘jamon y queso’ (=ham and cheese)

2. Salamanca 010 3. Salamanca 092

After she left I went sightseeing in Salamanca. I just took my camera and left to get to know some new places.

Salamanca is really amazing. The people live more on the street than in Belgium (which I really like!), they enjoy their afternoons with a nice glass of sangria at Plaza Mayor and they are really social. I also love the fact that the sky is always blue! It really makes me happy ;-).

I’ll attach some pictures I took today, so you can get to know Salamanca from my point of view. Enjoy 😉

4. Salamanca 029 5. Salamanca 023.

1. I love the little spots where people sell handmade stuff on the street! I bought a nice bracelet overthere!

2. “La Policia”:  it seemed like those 2 guys were really good friends. They were talking and talking… It’s such a nice feeling when your collegues are also your friends!

3. I was walking through the little streets without having a destination, and I loved the view I got from this point!

4.+ 5. I like the fact that a lot of people go to Plaza Mayor to chill out, read a book, or watch the other people. It really has a nice atmosphere.

6. “The world is breaking down & we fell in love”: I thought it was a really cute quote… And there I was wondering again what would be the story of the people who wrote it! I can’t help being so curious about things like that.

6. Salamanca 080
