Beach essentials

DSC_4318

Since summer is coming closer and we all like to look good and get inspired, I decided that I’d dedicate today’s post on some of my beach essentials. I live in Redondo Beach, California, and we basically have summery weather all your long, so I have lots of different favorites that I’d take. These are some of my go-to picks! Continue reading

Sea lions in Redondo Beach

DSC_3806kopie

My friend, Stacy, is training for a triathlon and since she was going to swim in the ocean this morning I decided to go with her to the beach and keep an eye out for her. It has been really cloudy for the last couple of days, but luckily the beach wasn’t wilder than usual. Even though I live in Redondo Beach, I barely ever go down to the beach in Redondo. It’s a little further than walking to Hermosa Beach, and since my leg isn’t fully recovered after the marathon yet, I haven’t been feeling like doing crazy long walks. Anyway, I went this morning and I saw a sea lion and a dolphin. The dolphin was jumping out of the water 2 meters of where Stacy was swimming which was so cool and the sea lions were almost walking on the beach. Such a bummer that I didn’t get out my camera on time. Isn’t the beauty of nature the absolute best way to start your day? Continue reading

Beach discoveries

DSC_0867

The best thing about living in California is having the beach on walking distance of your home. I love to go to the beach and just hang out, even on a less sunny day. I’m taking a photography class and we have to practice taking pictures outside. The teacher told us to always either go out before 10 in the morning or after 4pm in order to take the best pictures. When the sun is shining too bright, the pictures don’t turn out as good as when it’s overcast. Continue reading

#OOTD: Feeling like Marissa Cooper

DSC_0739

A little while ago, I went to the beach for a little shoot with some friends! We went on a day trip and this was my outfit. I was wearing beige pants, my grey Off Duty sweater, leopard printed shoes and a faux fur jacket. I really liked the combo of all the basic colors, combined with my printed shoes. I would say it was a comfy and sporty outfit that I gave a chic touch by adding the faux fur jacket to it.

I loved shooting around these lifeguard huts. The color made me realize that I’m living my dream here in California. I remember being 14 years old and going to the electronic store with all the money I saved from babysitting. I bought the The OC dvd box and when I came home, I watched the whole first season without taking a break. It was after midnight when I was done watching, but I knew that someday I wanted to live in California and go to the beach where Marissa Cooper always went to and I wanted to meet a guy like Ryan Atwood. I haven’t met my Ryan yet (Should I ask Tinder for some help with this?!), but I surely did go to this beautiful beach many times already.

Now, almost 9 years later, I’m living here, and the dream I had as a little teenage girl came true. Continue reading

Santa Barbara Pier

Slaiden One 1-5

Last Saturday, I went to Santa Barbara with a bunch of friends. To get there we had to drive for a little over 1,5 hour, but it was certainly worth the drive! While walking on the pier, an older Canadian couple asked us where we were from. They heart us talking to each other, each in our unique American accent. When we told them that we were from Belgium, Spain, France, Germany, Syria and several places in the US, they were like: “Hey guys, can we just hang out with you?”. Continue reading

Running schedule: Week 2

Screen Shot 2014-02-01 at 8.37.34 PM

I took a picture of the Redondo Beach Pier as I included this gorgeous place in my 9 mile run! I loved the light and how the place looks just so busy and peaceful in the same time.

As a promised a couple of posts ago, I would keep on posting about my running and workout schedule and since I didn’t do last weeks post yet, I’m sharing it with you right now!

In the second week, I ran every mile that I had to, according to my schedule. This means that last Sunday I ran 9 miles (14,5 km). This was pretty heavy for me, but while I was doing it I felt great!

When I’m running I just feel happy. I feel like it’s the kind of activity that frees me. I feel great and full of energy once I start my run. When I see views like the one on the picture I feel incredibly blessed to be living in California and to be able to see the beauty of this place whenever I want to.  Continue reading

Running schedule: week 1

Screen Shot 2014-01-22 at 9.36.14 AM

Last week I ran 27 miles (43,5 km).

Never before have I run this much in only a week of time! I think the schedule I made is really hard, but if you plan in your runs, it’s easy to follow! The second run of last week was the hardest, because it was around 30 degrees Celsius outside, I walked all the way to the beach and then I ran 6 miles with the stroller! I had to take a break after 3,5 miles because I felt dizzy, because of the weather and the strength I needed to push the stroller. The other runs went pretty well!  Continue reading

Hello, Hermosa Beach!

DSC_9908

Since my running schedule gives me a rest day on Monday and since the weather was amazing, I decided to take Slaiden for a walk. We went to Hermosa Beach, walked around, played in the sand (he decided he was gonna have some sand as a snack, of course!) and had a great afternoon. Winter in LA is amazing. It’s even warmer than the summer days in Belgium! Hermosa Beach is pretty much my favorite place to walk. I love Manhattan Beach too though! What’s your favorite beach destination? Continue reading

First beach run of 2014

Screen Shot 2014-01-11 at 8.22.59 PM

This morning, I decided to go for a run at the strand. Since I had arrived here, I’ve been so busy that I hadn’t found the time to go to the beach. I was so excited to go for a run today and you can probably imagine how disappointed I was to see that it was this foggy! I couldn’t even see the water! I do appreciate the beauty of this view though and I must say that this was the perfect weather for working out. I could feel little drops of water in the fog and they were so refreshing during my run.  Continue reading

Venice Beach Photography date

DSC_8459

On Saturday I had a full girls day and I had so much fun! First I went exploring Santa Monica with Stacy, my neighbor Kiko and the babies. I’ll post the pictures of Santa Monica in one of my next blog posts. After that, I met up with my girlfriends in Venice. Both Yael and Amy are passionate about photography, so it was really nice taking pictures together and helping each other out with our cameras! Continue reading
