Airstream

Airstream (1 of 11)

The most unique experience during the California road trip was definitely the night we slept in an airstream. When Paul first told me that he had booked a night for us in an airstream that was parked on someone’s driveway, I was immediately very excited. Most of the people I know have had at least one camping vacation with their family, but I never did that, so you can probably imagine how excited I was to ‘camp’ in this airstream.

When we arrived at the airbnb, we let ourselves in and found a beer for each of us in the fridge, which was a perfect start of a great night after having driven for a couple of hours. We checked out San Luis Obispo and ate at a very good pizza restaurant. After that we just walked in the town/city and I couldn’t believe how many ice cream and frozen yogurt places we saw in one street. My God, it was heaven on earth there! We got ourselves some ice cream and it was the best cookie dough ice cream I had ever eaten! So amazing! I wish this place was closer to home, because I fell in love with it!

Do you ever get that feeling when you’re traveling that you wouldn’t mind living in a place you just discovered? I totally had that with this place. I would love to live in a little city like SLO, full of young people and with all kinds of cool stores.

Anyway, after that we went back to the airstream and had a well deserved night of sleep. When we woke up in the morning the hosts immediately made us some coffee and then they started making eggs (that they got from the chickens in the garden) and pancakes. They had the coolest stories and were just very nice and interesting people! The food was amazing and after finishing it we left and drove to our next stop! 😉

I must say that sleeping in this vehicle didn’t seem any less comfortable than staying in a hotel. We had a little bathroom in the airstream, but could use everything in the house, including their bathroom, at any time. Everything was really clean and they really made us feel at home. They divided the Airstream in 2, by putting a door between the bedroom and the rest of the vehicle. We installed the Pack ‘n Play for Slaiden, who’s 19 months now, next to the bed in the ‘living room’ where I slept and it worked out perfectly. It’s a fun thing to do with little kids as they have the chickens and a dog he could play with.

Have you ever stayed in an airstream?

If you’re ever in San Luis Obispo, you should definitely check out this place. They charge 125$ a night, with breakfast included. You can find all the information here.
